ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team scored twice in the first half and repelled a comeback in the second half to top Presentation College 2-1 Wednesday in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Tigers (3-5) won despite being outshot 24-10 in the game as freshman goalkeeper Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) picked up his first career win in net for DWU. Got his first start against the Saints and posted a career-high 15 saves.
DWU got the scoring started early with a goal from junior Peter Wartenberg (Chaska, Minn.) in the ninth minute. The tally is the first of the season for Wartenberg and came on an assist from senior Adam Jahnel (Blair, Neb.).
The Tigers held the 1-0 lead until the closing minutes of the first half when junior Jorgen Munson (Duluth, Minn.) knocked in his first career goal.
Presentation fought back in the second half and broke through with a goal from Jack Herman, but the Tigers prevailed to head into the Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule with a win.
The Tigers open the GPAC season against Doane College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
