MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team opened their Great Plains Athletic Conference play on DWU's Homecoming Saturday against Doane College at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
The Tigers were held scoreless in their matchup against Doane, falling 2-0 despite a strong performance from DWU freshman goalkeeper Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) who had 12 saves. Miteff had nine saves in the first half, as the defense held strong for DWU with a scoreless tie at the break.
The score remained tied at zero until the 64th minute when Gabe Garbin took a feed from Mark Wallace to put Doane up 1-0. The visitors doubled their lead less than two minutes later as Wallace scored on a pass from Alex Wells.
DWU was outshot 18-4 in the contest, as freshman Yoshi Kogiso (Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico) had two shots in the contest for Wesleyan. Senior Sterling Hubbard (Jamestown, N.D.) and junior Peter Wartenberg (Chaska, Minn.) each added a shot.
The DWU men's soccer team continues conference play against Dordt College at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
