MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team played perhaps its best game of the season against Dordt College Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers battled throughout and had their chances, but fell to the Defenders 1-0. The loss drops DWU to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The lone goal was scored by Dordt's V.J. Hachaba in the 28th minute on an assist from Alex Durbin. That was all the Defenders would get, thanks to some stellar goalkeeping from DWU freshman Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
Miteff made eight saves in the loss, a number of them of the spectacular variety, including saving a penalty kick in the second half to keep the Tigers within one goal. DWU had several chances down the stretch, but could not find the back of the net.
The Defenders outshot the Tigers 16-15. Dordt (4-4, 1-1 GPAC) goalkeeper Jack McCool made 12 saves in the shutout win.
DWU looks for its first GPAC win against Hastings College (RV) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Hastings, Neb.
