
MITCHELL, S.D. – It was senior goalkeeper Kira Miller (Rock Springs, Wyo.) and senior midfielder Peter Wartenberg (Chaska, Minn.) who led the way for the Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers on the pitch this fall. Each received All-Conference Honorable Mention in the Great Plains Athletic Conference for their performances in their final seasons.
Miller set the DWU women's single season record for most saves finishing with 146. Statistically, her best performance came at home against Briar Cliff when she had 15 saves in a 1-0 double-overtime loss. Throughout Miller's final season she had six games with double-digit saves, including back-to-back games against University of Sioux Falls and Northern State University to start the season.
Wartenberg led his team in a different manner with six goals in his final season. The six goals were the most goals in a season throughout his career with the Tigers. His first goal of the season was a crucial one against Presentation College as it was the game-winner, giving the men's team their first victory of the season. Wartenberg finished his career with 13 goals and five assists.
Two other members of the men's team were named GPAC Honorable Mention in junior midfielder Derek Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) and sophomore goalkeeper Gaston Miteff (Berazategui, Argentina). Brenner finished the season with three assists, with one in the last game of the season against Concordia University in a 2-1 victory. Miteff ended his second season with the Tigers with 108 saves, beating the previous year by one save. He had a season-high 15 saves midway through the season against Northwestern College. Miteff had three other games with double-digit saves on the season.
Freshman forward Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the other Tiger to pick up post-season accolades for the women's team. She was named All-GPAC Honorable Mention to cap off her first season in a Tiger uniform. Weidler finished the season with five goals and two assists to lead the team in both categories. Her breakout game came in a victory against Mount Marty College as she scored three goals and had one assist.
The men finished the season 3-13 overall, and the women finished 2-14-1 overall; each finishing ninth in the GPAC respectively.
