MITCHELL, S.D. – After leading since the opening minutes of the game, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team seceded a goal to NCAA DII University of Mary in overtime to defeat DWU, 2-1 Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Senior captain, Derek Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game to give the Tigers (0-1) the early lead.
DWU led for the remainder of the first half and for the majority of the second half. However, the Marauders tied the game with 12 minutes remaining in regulation. However, the overtime minutes weren't in favor of DWU as U-Mary punched in a corner kick to secure the win.
The Marauders outshot the Tigers 22-13 during the match. Goalie Gaston Miteff (Berzategui, Argentina) finished the game with seven saves for the second-consecutive game for DWU.
The Tigers take the pitch against York College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
