MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Presentation College, 4-2 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
The Tigers (2-3) opened up the scoring as Andrew Luoma (Fairbanks, Alaska) found Connor Dodds (Durham, England) for the long-distance shot that slipped past the goalie's fingers.
The second goal came as Gage Pemberton (Overland Park, Kan.) crossed the ball in front of the goal to find another Tiger, instead he found a Presentation player who kicked the ball into his own net to put DWU up, 2-0.
However, the Saints would not go away as they scored in the 30th minute to bring the game back to a one-goal difference.
The Tigers put the game out of reach in the second half as Derek Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) dribbled through the Presentation defense and scored, and moments later Shayne Quinn (Mesa, Ariz.) added the fourth goal of the game.
DWU finished the game with 27 shots and eight corner kicks. Gaston Miteff (Berazategui, Argentina) tallied five saves for the Tigers. Quinn finished with four shots and a goal, while Dodds added three shots and a goal.
The Tigers are back in action as they travel to take on Grace University at 5:45 p.m. Friday in Omaha, Neb.
