OMAHA, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team tied a game-high record with 28 shots on goal set in 2005 on their way to an 11-0 victory over Grace University on Friday in Omaha, Neb.
Offensive firepower wasn't a problem for the Tiger men as seven different players scored goals in the contest. In the first period, the Tigers were first on the scoreboard in the 10th minute by a goal from Shayne Quinn (Mesa, Ariz.). Five minutes later, senior Derek Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the game. Both Quinn and Brenner went on to score again later in the half, while Brandon Jahnel (Blair, Neb.) added a goal 30 seconds prior to the end of the first half.
DWU went on to score six more times in the victory, led by Connor Dodds (Durham, England) and Gage Pemberton (Overland Park, Kan.) with two goals. Freshman Isaac Zahn (Billings, Mont.) and sophomore Caleb Larson (Mitchell, S.D.) both added a goal later in the second half.
The Tigers tallied 40 shots in the contest, compared to five by Grace. Brenner led all players with eight shots, while Dodds tallied six shots on goal.
DWU (3-3) visits NCAA DII University of Mary at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bismarck, N.D.
