Last-second goal propels Dordt over DWU men

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – With the game knotted at two apiece, Dordt College punched in a goal in the closing seconds of a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup, securing a 3-2 victory over the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team on Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Tigers were first on the scoreboard in the 38th minute off a goal from Gage Pemberton (Overland Park, Kan.). Dordt followed with two goals in the opening minutes of the second half. However, Joshua Pike (Hesperia, Calif.) tied the game for DWU with a goal in the 56th minute. What seemed to be like overtime for both teams, Eric Bourdo scurried in the final seconds and pitched in a goal to give the Defenders a conference win.

Dordt outshot the Tigers 16-5, while Shayne Quinn (Mesa, Ariz.) added a shot on goal in the loss. Goalie Gaston Miteff (Berazategui, Argentina) tallied seven saves in the net.

DWU (3-6, 0-2 GPAC) welcomes Northwestern College for a GPAC contest at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
