Penalty kick lifts Midland over DWU

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team nearly held off the high-scoring Midland University men's soccer team until a penalty kick in the 83rd minute sealed the victory for the Warriors in Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Senior Day, Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

 Senior Derek Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) led the Tigers with two shots on goal and five total shots, while Andrew Louma (Fairbanks, Alaska) added a shot on goal.

 Goalie Gaston Miteff (Berazategui, Argentina) had six saves in the net. Midland outshot DWU 19-9 in the loss.

 Five seniors were honored prior to the game. Shayne Quinn (Mesa, Ariz.), Luoma, Brenner, Jay Marx (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Liam LaFrance (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) were recognized for their contributions to DWU men's soccer.

 The Tigers (3-12, 0-7 GPAC) host Mount Marty College for a GPAC battle at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
