Midland defense stifles the Tigers in GPAC opener

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team dropped their battle with Midland University, 3-0 on Saturday in Mitchell in the Great Plains Athletic Conference opener.

 The Warriors (5-3, 3-0 GPAC) got on the board in the early minutes of the game scoring on a corner kick. Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) made a huge save on a Warrior penalty kick in the 26th minute to keep the Midland lead at one point. Midland added a goal and both teams headed to the locker room with the Warriors leading 2-0. The Tigers (2-4, 0-1 GPAC) were unable to find much success offensively as Midland added one more goal in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory.

 Miteff played all 90 minutes in the net for the Tigers and finished with eight saves on the night. Reece Weber (Brookings, S.D.) tallied the only shot for DWU in the 35th minute.

 The Tiger men are on the road against Presentation College on at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Aberdeen, S.D.
