MITCHELL, S.D. – On a rainy senior day, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team dropped their final game of the season to Morningside College, 2-0 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Morningside (11-5-1, 9-2-0 GPAC) gained control early on the offensive side, but the Tigers (4-12-1, 1-9-1) defense held as senior Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) collected three saves in the first 20 minutes of play. In the 20th minute, the Mustangs broke through for a goal and took a 1-0 lead. DWU had a chance in last 15 seconds of the first half, but they could not find the net as the score remained 1-0 for halftime.
The Tigers once again showed some offensive pressure early in the second half with a shot, and a corner kick, but Morningside scored a goal in the 63rd minute to put the game away and the Tigers could not answer, falling to the Mustangs 2-0.
DWU was outshot by Morningside in the match 25-6, as Tyler Anderson (Monticello, Minn.) and Gage Pemberton (Overland Park, Kan.) both led the team in shots with two each. Senior goalie Miteff finished the game with 11 saves on 13 shots.
The Tigers finished the season with a record of 4-12-1 overall and 1-9-1 in the GPAC.
