DWU plays to draw versus Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. – In their first non-conference game in nearly a month, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team battle NCAA Division II University of Mary to a 0-0 draw Tuesday in Bismarck, N.D.

It was a quick start for the Marauders (1-8-1) as they fired off six shots in the opening 30 minutes of the game, but Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) and the DWU defense held strong to not allow a goal.

Through the first 45 minutes of play, Mary tallied 10 shots and five corner kicks, as the Tigers (2-5-3) tallied four shots, one corner kick and six saves.

The second half saw much of the same as the Marauders recorded seven shots to DWU's three. However, neither team found the back of the net as the game headed to extra time.

In the extra time periods, the DWU defense was kept busy as Mary finished with six total shots to the Tigers' one shot. The DWU defense held strong again as the game finished without a score.

Campbell tallied 11 saves on 11 shots on goal, as Isaias Pio (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Angel Tapia (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied two shots.

The Tigers return to conference play against Northwestern College at 7:15 p.m. Saturday in Orange City, Iowa.
