MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team battled No. 5 Hastings College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference showdown and lost, 3-0 Saturday night at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
The Broncos (11-0-2, 7-0 GPAC) struck first in the ninth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers (2-8-3, 1-6-1 GPAC) recorded four shots in the opening half but could not find the back of the net. Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half as HC led DWU at halftime, 1-0.
In the 56th minute, the Broncos doubled their lead with another goal. HC put the game out of reach with a third goal in the 72nd minute. The Tigers were unable to capitalize on any goal-scoring opportunities as they were shut out in the conference loss.
Oscar Menchaca (Lindsay, Calif.) tallied two shots, while Omar Menchaca (Lindsay, Calif.) added a shot and Lucas Bule (Buenos Aires, Argentina) notched a shot as well. Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) snagged seven saves in the goal for the Tigers.
DWU hosts Briar Cliff University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
