Men’s soccer suffers road defeat

CRETE, Neb. – Only trailing by a goal at halftime, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team was unable to come from behind and defeat Doane University as they lost, 3-1 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tilt Saturday in Crete, Neb.

Doane (3-11-1, 2-5-1 GPAC) jumped out to an early lead following a goal in the seventh minute. They doubled their lead in the 21st minute.

However, DWU (2-10-3, 1-8-1 GPAC) cut the deficit in half thanks to an Andrew Browning (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) goal assisted by Rafael Medrano (Phoenix, Ariz.).

But that is all the closer DWU got as Doane added an insurance goal late in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Browning finished with five shots and a goal, while Medrano notched an assist and five shots. Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) tallied five saves for DWU.

DWU returns home for Senior Night against Concordia University at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
