Sanchez header lifts DWU on senior night

MITCHELL, S.D. – In their final game of the season, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team held Concordia University off the scoreboard as they picked up a 1-0 win on senior night in their Great Plains Athletic Conference battle Saturday in Mitchell.

The Tigers (3-10-3, 2-8-1 GPAC) reeled off three shots in the opening moments of the game to keep the opposing defense on their heels.

Following a Bulldog (10-5-2, 5-4-2 GPAC) foul deep in their own side of the field, DWU was awarded a free kick. Tyler Anderson (Monticello, Minn.) took the free kick and found Joel Sanchez (Salinas, Calif.) who headed the ball into the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the DWU defense held strong as they kept Concordia to just one shot in the half. Matthew Campbell (Duluth, Minn.) was awarded the shutout as DWU came away victorious on senior night.

Sanchez tallied a goal on one shot, while Anderson tallied an assist. Julian Mole (Canning, Buenos Aires) finished with three shots, while Campbell tallied one save for DWU.

The Tigers conclude the season with a 3-10-3 overall record.
