MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell in its season finale by a score of 9-0 versus conference foe Morningside College Wednesday evening at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
The Mustangs (10-2, 9-1 GPAC) opened the action scoring three goals in the first five minutes of play taking a 3-0 lead. Both teams traded possession for much of the remainder of the first period until Morningside added another goal in the closing minutes taking a 4-0 advantage to the locker room.
The Tigers (4-8-1, 3-7-1 GPAC) recorded seven shots in the opening period including a pair of attempts on goal by Ndrin Maloku (Prishtine, Albania). Meanwhile, goalie Hunter Birozy (Norco, Calif.) notched four saves.
The second period saw the Mustangs build on their lead adding another five goals en route to a 9-0 road victory. Despite 10 shots in the match, the Dakota Wesleyan offense was unable to find the back of the net.
Maloku finished with five shots to lead the Tigers while another five DWU attackers recorded one shot each. Conversely, the Dakota Wesleyan defense collected five saves compared to just two by Morningside.
The Blue and Gray finish the 2020 campaign with an overall record of 4-8-1 while going 3-7-1 in conference play.
