TIGERS FALTER IN HOME OPENER VERSUS NON-CONFERENCE FOE NO. 8 BRUINS

MITCHELL, S.D. – After splitting a pair of non-conference matches over the weekend, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell versus No. 8 Bellevue University by a score of 8-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday night from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The Bruins (1-0-1) came out firing on all cylinders in the first period, netting a trio of goals in the opening 33 minutes, including a penalty kick and held a 3-0 lead. Dakota Wesleyan attempted to counter the Bellevue momentum as Roberto Gerardo Romero (Lynwood, Calif.) and Lucas Paixao (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made bids on goal near the 40th minute. Yet, both shots were saved and BU entered halftime with the three-goal lead.

The Bruins continued the moment in the beginning of the second period with a pair of goals to kickstart the half. Nearing the 77th minute, Cesar Requena (Lima, Peru) found the back of the net for the Blue and Gray which brought the score to 6-1, though Bellevue came away with the decisive 8-1 victory.

DWU returns to the pitch next versus Nebraska Wesleyan University next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
