MEN’S SOCCER BESTED BY BCU IN GPAC ACTION

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer program suffered a 3-0 defeat versus conference foe Briar Cliff University in Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Wednesday from Faber Field in Sioux City, Iowa.

After an opening attempt on goal by Dakota Wesleyan left back Rafael Calderon (Talca, Chile), the Briar Cliff offense wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead. The Chargers, who tallied three shots in the first six minutes of the opening period, found the back of the net in the fourth minute.

A corner kick by Joel Sanchez (Salinas, Calif.) in the 36th minute gave the Tigers (1-8-0, 0-2-0 GPAC) a shot to match the BCU advantage, though the corner kick yielded no chance on goal and the score remained 1-0.

Meanwhile, the Chargers (5-5-0, 3-1-0 GPAC) extended its advantage to 3-0 moments before halftime and held a three-goal lead at the intermission. At the goalkeeper position, Hunter Birozy (Norco, Calif.), who concluded the match with 12 saves, snagged seven shots in the first 45 minutes of action.

Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the match while the BCU offense controlled the momentum and the three-goal advantage. Briar Cliff ultimately secured the 3-0 home victory.

Dakota Wesleyan returns home for back-to-back home matches as the Tigers welcome Dordt University next at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday from the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
