Orange City, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss versus No. 21 Northwestern College in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Wednesday from the NWC Soccer Complex in Orange City, Iowa.
The nationally ranked Northwestern men's soccer team wasted no time seizing control of the match in the first period. NWC, who finished the game with eight shots on goal, scored in 2nd minute and took a 1-0 lead.
Both teams traded possessions moving forward before Barry-Dre Tibbetts (Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands) struck a shot on goal. The attempt was denied nevertheless and NWC furthered its advantage to 2-0 in the 19th minute.
Benjamin Lazcano (Concepcion, Chile) attempted to spark the Tiger (2-10-0, 1-4-0 GPAC) offense with a late shot as the match approached halftime, yet, the score sat deadlocked at 2-0 during the intermission.
DWU junior goalkeeper Hunter Birozy (Norco, Calif.) notched back-to-back saves to open the second period while Rafael Calderon (Talca, Chile) and company tried to find an offensive jolt. Calderon sought an opportunity on goal in the 61st minute but to no avail and the score remained unhindered at 2-0.
Unphased, the Red Raider (10-1-1, 6-0-0 GPAC) attack registered a pair of goals with under 10 minutes to play and coasted to the 4-0 home victory.
The Tigers return to the pitch next versus Doane University at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday in Crete, Neb.
