How It Happened

Dakota Wesleyan was put on their heels early as Coe College pushed right away. The Tigers held the back line tight forcing the CC into a pair of offside calls through the first three minutes of play. The Kohawks earned the first shot on the game in the fourth minute but went wide left. Heading into the 11th minute, the Tigers got their chance on goal as Roberto Rome sent a shot onto goal but was saved by the CC goalkeeper. Meer seconds after Rome's shot, Isaias Pio followed in with the first goal of the game and the 1-0 lead. DWU had to play some tough defense after the opening goal as CC was looking to push the attack and even the game. The Tigers 1-0 lead didn't hold for long though, as the Kohawks netted one of their own in the 29th minute bringing the game back even at 1-1. DWU and CC were knotted at 1-1 as the halftime whistle blew.

Coe came out in the second half looking to take the lead early, but Federico Dusini held strong between the posts for the Tigers keeping the game tied. DWU attempted to push the limits in the 59th minute but was called offsides by the assistant referee. In the 71st minute, Garrett Hanna let a shot fly on goal that was saved the Kohawks goalkeeper. Grant Pierce entered the game again in the 80th minute which proved to be the game changer. Hanna sent a shot in to goal, that was stopped, but Pierce cleaned up the rebound earning the game winning goal for the Tigers as they led 2-1 with eight minutes left to play. Coe tried to tie the game again late in the game, but their shots were nonthreatening.

Dusini grabbed the win making three saves on four shots on goal in his 90-minutes between the posts. Pierce posted one shot on goal and the game winning goal, as Pio also posted one shot and one goal.
