TIGER MEN'S SOCCER FALL SHORT AT HOME IN HARD FAUGHT BATTLE

Mitchell, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan men's soccer team falls to Waldorf University by a narrow margin of 1-0 at home to start their three game homestand.

How it Happened

Dakota Wesleyan attacks early with two corner kicks by Lucas Paixao in the first four minutes of the game testing Waldorf University's defensive strength. Isaias Pio amplifies the pressure with a shot on goal but was handled by the starting goalkeeper.

 

The Warriors score first in the 16th-minute for the 1-0 lead over DWU. Although, the Tigers would continue the pressure with Lucas Paixao having another scoring look in the 21st minute, but the attempt was handled again by the goalkeeper. Yellow cards would be handed to Cesar Requena and one for the Warriors at the 25thminute. The Tigers had three attempts to score on goal but remained scoreless at the end of the first period. 

 

DWU continues adding defensive pressure on WU to open the second half, firing three shots that missed high. The Warriors had a few more chances in the second half to extend their lead, but were all saved by Hunter Birozy. Cesar Requena and Anthony Acosta attempts to get on the board, but both misses high above the goal. 

 

With an outstanding team save that prevented another goal from the Warriors, it still wasn't enough to give the Tigers the victory for a final score of 1-0. At the end of the match, yellow cards were given to DWU Isaias Pio and another Warriors player.
