TIGER MEN’S SOCCER STUMBLES AFTER STRONG FIRST HALF

Mitchell, S.D. –Dakota Wesleyan men's soccer posted their strongest first half of play all season against the Raiders of Northwestern Wednesday evening. The Tigers sent five shots on goal, forcing the NWC starting goalkeeper to make three saves.

How It Happened

Northwestern struck first in the match, putting a shot over the goal by the fifth minute. After a few more well-earned shot on goal by the Raiders, the Tigers got their first look on goal as Cesar Requena sent one in forcing the NWC goalkeeper to make the save keeping the score at 0-0. DWU got another great look on goal by Grant Pierce in the 18th-minute but was saved by the Raiders. Tiger starting goalkeeper Hunter Birozy kept busy in the first 45-minutes of play as the Raiders forced him to make back-to-back saves in the 25th and 28thminute. Isaias Pio got on the books in the 37th minute with a shot of his own, but sent it just wide left of the net as the game was still tied at 0-0. Just Minutes after Michael Kelly got in on the action with a shot in the 39thminute but was once again saved. After 45-minutes of play, the Tigers and Raiders were knotted at 0-0 as the stands were packed with fans for faculty and staff appreciation night.

DWU opened the second half where they left off, posting a strong first 12-minutes before the Raiders snapped the tie with the first goal of the game. Dakota Wesleyan continued to play strong though, pushing the ball into their offensive third for a shot on goal in the 63rd minute as the NWC goalkeeper was called upon to make another save. Northwestern put two more goals on the board in the 65th and 67th minute for the final score of 3-0 over the Tigers.

Of DWU's ten total shots, Pio was responsible for three of them; while the six total shots-on-goal, two of them were off the foot of Garrett Hanna. Birozy posted nine saves on 12 shots on goal.
