Mitchel, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan men's soccer put the pressure on Martin Luther College all night in the 5-0 victory. The first half goals were scored by Cesar Cornejo, Cesar Requena, and Jonathan Mosqueda. Both second half goals scored within seconds of each other were put into the net by freshman Korbinian Rieder.
How It Happened:
The Tiger offense was on the attack all night, having 40 total shots in the match. Nearly half of those shots, 18, were on goal. Mosqueda found the back of the net first in the match in the 10' minute as he took it to the house himself. Cornejo picked up where he left off in the Tiger's previous match and went and got himself a goal in the 14' minute of the match, his second goal of the season. The last goal of the first half came from senior Requena, scoring in the 22' to put the Tigers up 3-0 for the remainder of the first half.
The second half started, and the Tigers kept pushing the pace, as they had 10 corner kicks and 21 shots in the second half. Offensively the Tigers continued to get shots off, but the defense was outstanding. The defense only allowed four shots all game, and only two being on goal. Both shots on goal were saved by junior goalkeeper Garrett Douglas.
In the 61' minute after a missed header out of a corner kick, Rieder came in on the second chance shot to score his first goal of the match and first of the season. Within the next minute of play, midfielder Vladislav Burkov went to take a penalty kick that was blocked by the Knights goalie only to land at the feet of Rieder who fired away to get his second goal of the match. This goal put the match away as the Tigers walked away with the shutout win.
