Mitchell, S.D. –
DWU men's soccer (4-2) hosted the Concordia Moorhead Cobbers at Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex, trying to get back into the win column. The Cobbers struck first in the match to have a 1-0 lead most of the match. Tigers changed their pace in the second half, forcing the Cobbers on their heels to tie it up late, but the Cobbers had the last say and put one into the back of the net to seal the win 2-1.
How It Happened –
DWU just came off a loss against Hastings Saturday and the Tigers were hungry to get a win. D-3 opponent Cobbers came into Mitchell off a loss as well and wanted to find a win as well. The Cobbers struck first, just inside the 4' minute mark of the match. Both teams exchanged shots throughout the rest of the first half, with the Tigers outshooting the Cobbers 10-7 in the first 45 minutes. Going into halftime, the Tigers were down 1-0 and needed to respond during the next half.
The Tigers came out aggressive in the second half, getting 14 shots off through the Cobber defense. After several blocked and saved shots, the Tiger offense found Colton Douglas for the equalizer goal in the 72' minute. Both offenses looked to find a way to put this match away, sending the ball back and forth across the pitch. The Cobbers found their chance and took it in the 82' minute to hit the deciding goal of the match to hand the Tigers the loss.
Up Next -
The Tigers will travel to Sioux City on September 20th to take on the Chargers of Briar Cliff University. Game time is set for 11 A.M. at Memorial Field.
