TIGERS BATTLE NO. 23 BULLDOGS IN HARD FOUGHT 1-0 LOSS

Mitchell, SD –

DWU men's soccer played outstanding defense to hold nationally ranked No. 23 Concordia to only one goal in this conference matchup. The Tigers moved to 0-4-1 in GPAC play after the 1-0 loss against the number two team in the conference.

How It Happened –

Tigers looked to throw Concordia off their game and did just that. The first half alone saw five yellow cards, four of them against the Tigers. The vigorous defense of the Tigers forced a scoreless first half as well, as they only allowed the Bulldogs to have five shot attempts. The DWU offense only found six shot attempts in the first half, all being thwarted away by the Bulldog's defense.

As the teams came out for the second half, the Tigers continued with the aggressive play style. DWU ended the match with a total of 12 fouls and four yellow cards against them but were able to force Concordia out of their game plan and caused the Bulldogs to pick up four yellows as well. The only goal of the match came from a corner kick for the Bulldogs that hit the right post and landed in front of a Bulldog attacker to score. Vladislav Burkov fired three shots in the match, two being on goal and only missing by inches. Goalkeeper Hunter Birozy ended the match with six saves in 90 minutes of play. The Tiger defense held their ground in outstanding fashion and have proved it against one of the top GPAC teams.
