MEN’S SOCCER LOSES TO DOANE 3-1 IN BATTLE OF TIGERS

Crete Neb. –

DWU men's soccer was unable to grab the win in the Tiger vs Tiger battle against Doane this afternoon. DWU tied it up halfway through the first half at 1-1 before Doane scored two more goals in the first half. The Tigers had multiple shots on goal but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities before Doane pulled of the 3-1 victory.

How It Happened –

DWU looked to grab a GPAC win on the road against Doane University after a tough loss to Northwestern earlier this this week. Doane would strike first in this matchup of Tiger vs Tiger, as they scored early in the 2' minute of the match. DWU looked to answer and found one in the 14' minute. Freshman Luis Waeschle fired his only shot of the match from the top of the box and sent it right past the Doane goalie to knot up the score 1-1. Doane would have a quick response to DWU and score their second goal in the 16' and third goal in the 26' to go up 3-1 for the remainder of the first half.

The second half saw no goals from either squad but did see plenty of action. DWU had six shots on goal that were either saved or blocked by the Doane defense. The second half also saw more physicality as both teams were handed yellow cards and several fouls against them. Goalkeeper Hunter Birozy would end the game with four saves and the DWU offense out paced Doane with 12 shots on goal to Doane's seven.

Up Next for the Tigers –

DWU is back in action against the new GPAC opponent Waldorf on October 11th. The game is set to take place in Mitchell, SD at the Pepsi Cola Soccer complex with the first whistle set to be at 5 PM.
