
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the Sixth Annual NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede on Saturday, ultimately notching a pair of 20th-place finishes in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Saturday's invitational featured a very stout field as the women's 5K showcased 25 teams while the men's 8K included 28.
On the women's side, DWU was paced by Delanie Larson (Gettysburg, S.D.) who had a big race crossing the finish line in 89th place with a time of 20:56.70 minutes. Following Larson, Morgan Oedekoven (Pierre, S.D.) placed 106th while Tessa Kilber (Ipswich, S.D.) recorded a time of 22:01.26.
Rounding out the Tiger scoring, was Annika Vermeulen (Mitchell, S.D.) and Macey Bohl (Garretson, S.D.) crossing the finish line in 144th and 174th place, respectively. After the scores were posted, DWU notched a 20th-place finish as a team tallying a spread of 2:25.8.
The men's squad saw Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.) just miss out on cracking the top-100 crossing the finish line in 102nd with a time of 28:32.44. Seven spots behind Rihanek was Wyatt Baldauf (Seneca, Ill.) as he finished with a time of 28:50.76.
Fellow sophomore Justin Sorensen (Vermillion, S.D.) was the third Tiger scorer recording a 120th-place finish. Rounding out the DWU spread was Hunter Shanks (Bennington, Neb.) and Layne Lewis (Plankinton, S.D.) clocking times of 30:00.51 and 31:50.63, respectively.
With an average of 29:41, the men's team notched a 20th-place finish as well to end the day.
The Blue and Gray travel to Yankton, S.D., two weeks from today to compete at the Mount Marty Invite.
