TIGERS FALL LATE IN BOTH GAMES AGAINST (RV) CONCORDIA CARDINALS

Melbourne, Fla. – On the first day of the Dakota Wesleyan softball Florida spring break trip at the 2024 Space Coast Games, the Tigers dropped a pair of games against (RV) Concordia (Mich.). DWU played the receiving votes Cardinals close in both games and even held a lead or was tied in the fifth inning in both games. With the two losses the Tigers drop to 5-8 on the season.

In game one Keirstyn Krcil got the nod and delivered another quality start with her 5.2 innings of one run ball while recording three strikeouts. Krcil now has allowed just four runs in her 19.2 innings of work in her last three starts for a 1.83 era and 2-0 record during that span. Offensively the Tigers struggled to string hits together and get much going. Peyton Bagley led the way recording half the hits with her 2 for 4 performance at the plate. McKinnely Mull came up in the clutch for her team in extra innings with her RBI double to give the Tigers a one run lead. In the bottom half though DWU struggled with command in the circle and walked in the tying run and hit the next batter to give the Cardinals the 3-2 win. All three runs scored by Concordia were due to walks or hit batters.

Game two in the first five innings was a tight back and forth contest that had both teams knotted up at three runs. The highlight was in the bottom of the fifth when Alyssa Burke drove in two with a two-out RBI single to tie it up. The next half frame the Cardinals pulled away though posting six runs in the half frame which ended up being our final at 9-3. The Concordia starter gave the DWU batters problems the whole game as the freshman went all seven innings only giving up one earned and had a staggering 11 punchouts. Macy Moore showed off her wheels in the third inning though as she raced around the bases for a rare inside the park home run, being her first of her career. Burke also show cased her speed all game with her three stolen bases, growing on her school record in the stat category. Ivy Woolwine started for the Tigers and took the loss in her five innings of work.
