Melbourne, Fla. – On day two of the Tigers Melbourne, Florida spring break trip the team squared off against two more Michigan based schools and fell in both matchups. DWU is now 5-10 on the season.
In game one the Tigers dropped a matchup with Siena Heights 6-5. Like yesterday, Dakota Wesleyan took a late 2-1 lead heading to the final frame when errors and miscues riddled the Tigers in the half frame resulting in five runs crossing the plate for the Saints and only one of them being an earned run. Facing a 6-2 deficit the Tigers mounted a two-out rally that had them string together four hits resulting in three runs and giving them bases loaded with two outs and the tying run on third and winning run on second. Unfortunately, DWU was not able to get either runner home and the comeback fell short with the 6-5 loss. Dakota Wesleyan was slightly outhit in the contest 12-11, but the difference being the two seventh inning errors compared to Siena Heights zero for the entire game. Nora Nelson, Deanna Davidson, and Jaden Warner all collected two hits in the contest. Pinch hitter Eden Heggemeyer recorded the only extra base hit with her leadoff double in the seventh to get the inning going. Keirstyn Krcil started the game and cruised through the first six innings only surrendering the one run, before the seventh inning fell apart with the errors and infield hits resulting in four runs (one earned) for the starter.
In game two the Tigers fell to Michigan-Dearborn 7-5. Most of the damage by both teams was done in the first two innings as the Wolverines held a 6-4 lead over DWU. Tiger starter Ivy Woolwine would settle in after these two innings, just giving up one run the rest of the way in her seven inning start. The Tiger offense also struggled to get anything going late innings, just managing one run in the fifth for a 7-5 final. At the plate DWU was led by Nelson with another two-hit performance which included a double. Heggemeyer and Macy Moore also collected two hits in the game while Alyssa Burke and McKinnely Mull drove in two runs each.
