ERRORS LATE SPELL TROUBLE FOR TIGERS AGAINST ROOSEVELT, TIGERS HOLD OFF LATE LOURDES COMEBACK ATTEMPT TO WIN 8-5

Melbourne, Fla. –

In their first contest of the day, the Tigers faced off against the Lakers of Roosevelt in a tight battle. The Tigers allowed Roosevelt to get on the board with two runs in the second inning, but Jaden Warner batted in McKinnley Mull in the bottom of the second to keep it a one run game. The Tiger's defense was able to get off the field quickly in the third and fourth innings after Ivy Woolwine struck out a few batters. Mull hammered a ball deep into left center in the bottom of the fourth and made it all the way to third to set herself up to score her second run of the day. Mull would score off Macy Moore's sacrifice fly out and the score would be tied 2-2 going into the fifth inning. Roosevelt's first batter up tripled and after an error, was able to take the lead. DWU answered in the sixth to tie the ball game up for the third time at 3-3. Nora Nelson stepped up and doubled deep into center field before pinch runner Khasidy Hodge took over. Hodge would advance to third off a Mull single and Brianna Dawson was able to get her home in the following at bat. Going into the final frame, the Tigers needed a stop. Unfortunately, a pair of errors would cause problems as the Lakers put up three runs on the board to take a commanding lead 6-3 and DWU had no response. Ivy Woolwine struck five batters in the contest.

In game two, the Tigers found their footing early and grabbed a healthy lead of 5-1 after three innings. Mull came across home first to get DWU on the board after a deep Payton Bagley shot to left center. Brianna Dawson opened the second inning for DWU with her first hit of the game and would later score off a wild pitch from the Lourdes pitcher, making it 2-1. Krysten Krcil allowed one hit in the second inning after striking out the first batter and then the defense stepped up. Reagan Grossi caught a Lourdes baserunner trying to steal second for the third out. DWU had a solid third inning with three runs scored. Dawson sent Bagley home with her second hit and then crossed the dish for her second score. After a quiet fourth, the Tigers put up another three runs, going up 8-1 heading into the 6th frame. As much as Lourdes would do their best, they were unable to get the comeback after they scored four runs in the sixth and seventh. Dawson would end the game going 2/2 on hits and being walked in her third AB. She scored three runs to go with one RBI. Dakota Wesleyan held onto the win to split the day, 1-1.
