The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team hosted Doane University in the "Battle of the Tigers" contest, splitting the double header on senior day. DWU took game one with a 7-3 win, using the windy conditions to their advantage. Game two, the wind picked up forcing DWU into four errors and Doane got the win, 12-4.
Doane scored the first run in the second inning game one, their only lead of the game before DWU scored a pair of runs in the same inning. Senior Reagan Grossi went 2 for 3 with two runs and senior Monique Gomez went 2 for 2 with two RBIs to lead the Tigers to a win on their senior day. Dakota Wesleyan scored three runs in the fourth after Peyton Bagley doubled to right, giving Grossi and Gomez two runs. McKinneley Mull's single RBI was the third run scored with Bagley coming across home. Doane scored two runs in the seventh, but it was not enough as DWU held off any kind of comeback attempt and won the first game of the double header, 7-3. Keirstyn Krcil earned the win after pitching all seven innings with two strike outs and only three earned runs.
Game two, Dakota Wesleyan struggled with the gusty winds and committed four errors with Doane only committing two. Grace Ortmeier got the nod to start in the circle in game two and struck five batters in 4.2 innings. Dakota Wesleyan had a two run lead after holding Doane off the scoreboard through the first three innings. It was in the fourth inning that Doane put up five runs and held onto this lead until the very end, taking game two away from Dakota Wesleyan. Grossi continued to hit the ball well, going 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI in the second game. Sophomore Jordyn Blogg contributed to DWU as she hit .500 and scored two runs and drove in another. Both teams had eight hits but Doane put up 12 runs to DWU's four runs to take game two in Battle of the Tigers.
