
MITCHELL, S.D. – Mount Marty College had no answer for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball duo of Erica Herrold and Kristin Sabers, who combined for 42 points in a Great Plains Athletic Conference win for the Tigers Tuesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers nearly doubled the Lancers in made field goals and had 23 assists to just two from MMC in a 72-47 win for DWU. The Tigers move to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the GPAC.
After falling behind 4-0, DWU went on a 22-4 run to close the first quarter up 14 points. An 11-1 run in the third quarter for the Tigers put the game out of reach.
Herrold (Dimock, S.D.) went over 20 points for the second straight game and for the third time this season in the win. She was 8-of-14 from the field, scoring a game-high 22 points and hit four 3-pointers, while adding four rebounds. Sabers (Mitchell, S.D.) also continued to score in bunches for DWU, finishing with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore forward Ashley Bray (Anoka, Minn.) came off the bench to score 11 points and grab a team-high seven rebounds, while junior guard Gabby Frykbo (Sodertalje, Sweden) chipped in with eight points and four assists.
The Tigers shot 25-of-53 from the field, 10-of-24 from deep and 12-of-15 from the line. DWU won the rebounding battle 32-26, while finishing with nine turnovers.
MMC was led by Alex Kneeland with 16 points, while Cassidy Gebhart added 13 as the Lancers shot 13-of-52 from the field, 5-of-27 from deep and 16-of-23 from the line. MMC finished with 10 turnovers.
The Tigers head to Hastings College for a pair of games this weekend, starting with a matchup against Southwestern College (Kan.) at 5 p.m. Friday in Hastings, Neb.
