LA CROSSE, Wis. – Twin sister's Ashley and Amber Bray (Anoka, Minn.) tallied 33 of the No. 3 Tigers' 74 points in a 74-48 victory over No. 19 Cardinal Stritch University on Saturday in La Crosse, Wis.
The junior duo shot a combined 11-of-15 from the floor, 6-of-9 from the three point line and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Amber recorded 18 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double, while Ashley added 15 points and five rebounds. Both were named to the all-tournament team, while Amber was named the tournament MVP.
Both teams traded shots in the first quarter, but it was the Tigers who came out on top in the first half, after taking a 12-point lead on a pair of made free throws by Ashley Bray. Rylie Osthus (De Smet, S.D.) added a layup with eight seconds to play in the first half to give the Tigers a 40-25 lead heading into the locker room.
The Tigers ultimately extended their lead to 19 points on a pair of made free throws from freshman Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) With 21 seconds left in the third quarter, Cheeseman hit a long-range 3-pointer to give DWU a 20 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Hope Menning (Corsica, S.D.) and Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) played a pivotal role for DWU off the bench in the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer from Menning with 7:52 left in the contest gave the Tigers a 62-36 lead, putting the game out of reach for the Wolves. Menning on to tally five points in four minutes of action, while Carr added 13 points and six rebounds in 17 minutes of work.
The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field, 46 percent from beyond the arc and 86 percent from the free throw line. DWU outrebounded CSU 38-27.
The Tigers (6-0) visit NCAA Div. II St. Cloud State University for an exhibition game at 2 p.m. today in St. Cloud, Minn.
