
MITCHELL, S.D. – In their second of four home games, the No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team cruised over the College of Saint Mary, 86-39 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference game on Friday night at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers (17-2, 8-2 GPAC) jumped out to a quick 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed in the contest. The third quarter was much of the same as DWU held the Flames (5-13, 1-10 GPAC) to just six points. CSM did not score until 3:52 left in the stanza, with the Tigers up 60-23. The DWU defense stifled the Flames offense to 16 percent shooting from the field in the third quarter and 0-for-6 from 3-point range. With the defense holding strong, the Tiger offense scored 14-unanswered points to open the second half. DWU would lead by as much as 49 points in the fourth quarter as they cruised to their eighth win in conference play.
Rylie Osthus (De Smet, S.D.) led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior Erica Herrold (Dimock, S.D.) added 14 points along with five rebounds while Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) scored 13 points. Ashley Bray (Anoka, Minn.) tallied 12 points and eight rebounds as Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) netted 11 points off the bench. Every player saw playing time during the game as the Tigers shot 44 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free-throw line.
The Tigers host No. 2 Concordia University Bulldogs in a GPAC showdown at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
