MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second-straight game, the No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team won by over 30 points as they cruised to victory over Dordt College, 76-42 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers (18-2, 9-2 GPAC) started hot in the first quarter as they jumped out to the 17-7 lead. DWU began the second quarter on a 16-2 run. The Defenders (8-14, 0-12 GPAC) did not score a field goal in the second quarter until 2:53 remaining in the half. Freshman Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) scored the final five points of the second quarter as she drained a 3-pointer as time expired to put the Tigers up 43-13 at the break.
Erica Herrold (Dimock, S.D.) started off the second half with seven straight points as she gave the Tigers a 31-point lead. DWU would go on to lead by as much as 36 points in the fourth quarter shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from 3-point range. The defense held Dordt to 29 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Carr led the way for the Tigers with 17 points and five rebounds off the bench. Herrold added 16 points, while Rylie Osthus (De Smet, S.D.) netted 10 points and dished out eight assists. The Tiger's bench outscored the Defender's bench, 41-14 as every Tiger saw playing time for the second-straight game.
DWU hits the road as they take on Doane College in a GPAC showdown at 2 p.m. Saturday in Crete, Neb.
