
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team pulled away from Briar Cliff University, 83-65 Wednesday night in a Great Plains Athletic Conference game in Sioux City, Iowa thanks to four Tigers scoring double digits in the contest.
The Tigers (22-4, 13-4 GPAC) outrebounded the Chargers (14-13, 8-9 GPAC) 48-24 with 14 of those coming on the offensive end, leading to 14 second-chance points. DWU scored 27 points off 19 Briar Cliff turnovers.
DWU outscored the Chargers in every quarter and led at the half, 40-33. Briar Cliff came out in the second half and took the lead for a short time. DWU regained and built their lead to 18 points for the remainder of the contest.
With the win, the Tigers are now tied for second in the GPAC along with No. 10 Hastings College at 13-4 in conference play with three games left.
Ashley Bray (Anoka, Minn.) led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Carr (Huron, S.D.) came off the bench and scored 16 points with seven rebounds while freshman Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) added 14 points. Erica Herrold (Dimock, S.D.) tallied 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. DWU shot 46.6 percent from the field and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The Tigers come home for a Top-25 matchup against No. 2 Concordia University at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
