MITCHELL, S.D. – On a gorgeous evening at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team took on the University of Sioux Falls in a non-conference matchup Saturday in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers hung tight with the NCAA Division II Cougars throughout the majority of the first half, but Alexandria Scott capitalized on a penalty shot to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
In the second half the Cougars expanded their lead after a goal by Chessa Novotny, to take a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. USF held on to the lead, handing DWU its second loss of the season. The game will count for DWU, which is 0-2 on the year, while remaining an exhibition for USF.
The Cougars outshot the Tigers 14-9 in the first half and 30-12 in the game. Goalkeeper Cici Schneider (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had 11 saves for DWU. Freshman Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the Tigers with five shots; while senior Ashley Burkman (Brandon, S.D.) and sophomore Sarah Dreyer (Sioux Falls, S.D.) each added two shots in the loss.
The Tigers will continue their season as they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Huntington University at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
