CCC slips by DWU women 3-2

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer was coming off of their first win of the season heading into a matchup with Central Christian College Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The Tigers had a strong first half, scoring two goals, but gave up three unanswered tallies by CCC in the second half to fall 3-2.

Freshman Abby Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) broke the ice in the first half with her first goal as a Tiger on an assist by senior Maranda Ehrenfried (Pierre, S.D.) to give DWU the 1-0 lead. Behm added six shots to go along with her one goal. Ehrenfired's assist was the first of the season for DWU.

Sophomore Brooklyn Oehlerking (Harrisburg, S.D.) put DWU up 2-0 going into halftime with her first marker of the season.

The visitors came out of the locker room and took control. Madison Strickland got CCC on the board on the 55th minute on an unassisted tally. The game was tied in the 81st minute on a goal from Isabel Sierra, while Marianna Mercer got the game winner less than two minutes later.

DWU sophomore goalkeeper Cici Schneider (Sioux Falls, S.D.) came into the game off a tremendous 12-save performance against Clarke University that earned her GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors. Schneider finished with four saves, all coming in the first half. Junior Kira Miller (Preston, Idaho) played the second half and finished with nine saves and gave up three goals.

Central Christian outshot DWU 14-5 in the second half and 18-11 overall.

The Tigers are back in action against the University of Jamestown at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
