MITCHELL, S.D. – For the second time in as many days, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team let a halftime lead slip away Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
The Tigers scored twice in the first half and carried a one-goal lead into the locker room, but the University of Jamestown scored four times in the second half to win 5-2. The loss drops the Tigers to 1-5 overall.
After Monica Noria put Jamestown up 1-0 in the sixth minute, junior Lizeth Gomez (Garden City, Kan.) pulled the Tigers even with the first goal of her career. Gomez' tally came on a rebound from a shot fired by sophomore Sarah Dreyer (Sioux Falls, S.D.).
The Tigers took the lead when senior Maranda Ehrenfried (Pierre, S.D.) took a feed from Gomez and pushed the ball by the Jamestown goalkeeper for her first marker of the season.
The second half was all Jamestown, which scored four times in the second half to secure the win. Connie Contreras had two the second-half Jimmie goals. The Tigers were outshot 25-8.
The Tigers are off for 10 days until a matchup against Presentation College at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 in Aberdeen, S.D.
