Doane wins battle of Tigers against DWU women

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team began their Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Homecoming Weekend Saturday against Doane College at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.

The DWU women were held scoreless in the contest, falling to Doane College 3-0. Junior goalkeeper Kira Miller (Preston, Idaho) had eight saves on the day, with four in each half.

The Tigers had 15 shots on the day compared to 16 shots by Doane. Senior Maranda Ehrenfried (Pierre, S.D.) had many close calls and led the team with eight shots and six shots on goal. Freshman Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.), freshman Abby Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and junior Lizeth Gomez (Garden City, Kan.) each added two shots for the Tigers.

Doane took advantage of two early goals by Betsy McDonald and Sara Cushing to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Cushing added another goal late in the second half to win 3-0.

The Tiger women are back in action against Dordt College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
