Northwestern pulls away from DWU in GPAC match

ORANGE CITY, Neb. – Despite being held without a shot on goal, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team hung with Northwestern College through the first half in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.

The Tigers trailed just 1-0 at the half, but two goals after the break in quick succession allowed the Red Raiders to pull away for the 3-0 win. The loss drops DWU to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the GPAC with the second half of the league schedule still in front of the Tigers.

The scoring started for NWC with a goal from Kim Korver in the 27th minute to put the Red Raiders up 1-0 until Jahdai Dunk scored twice in less than two minutes early in the second half.

The Tigers were outshot 24-1 with the lone DWU attempt coming off the foot of junior Lizeth Gomez (Garden City, Kan.). DWU junior goalkeeper Kira Miller (Preston, Idaho) made 10 saves in the loss.

The Tigers look to break through in the GPAC against the team they eliminated from the league postseason last year. DWU travels to Midland University to play the Warriors at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fremont, Neb.
