NWU holds off DWU women in season finale

LINCOLN, Neb. – The final game of the season for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team was a hard-fought matchup, but Nebraska Wesleyan University capitalized on opportunities to top the Tigers Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.

The Tigers failed to score for the fifth time in six games, falling to the Prairie Wolves 2-0 to end the 2015 season with a record of 3-15 overall and 1-10 in the GPAC.

NWU got the scoring started with a goal in the 23rd minute from Laurel Heskett on an assist from Hallie Schimienti. The Prairie Wolves held on to their narrow lead until a second goal from Heskett midway through the second half.

DWU was outshot 10-5, while NWU took eight more corner kicks.

The Tigers fielded a young team in 2015, with numerous freshman playing vital roles. The Tigers will need to replace seniors Maranda Ehrenfried, Ashley Burkman, Allison Blow and Lexi Wilde, but will have an experienced core of players returning in 2016.
