Tiger women drop season opener 2-1 to USF

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan women's soccer team came up just short in its season opener, falling 2-1 to the University of Sioux Falls on Monday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.

DWU held strong for most of the night, as the Cougars scored two goals in the second half. Lauren LaFavre scored in the 53rd minute and Lola Weiss chipped in a goal in the 62nd minute.

The Tigers fought back, scoring in the 66th minute by a breakaway shot from freshman Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.). The goal was the first career tally for Weidler.  Freshman Ashytn Cobb (Huron, S.D.) recorded a shot on goal for DWU, also.

Senior Kira Miller (Rock Springs, Wyo.) kept USF at bay for most of the night, recording 13 saves throughout the contest. The Cougars outshot the Tigers 25-5, while recording two fouls compared to six from DWU.

DWU (0-1) takes on Northern State at 5 p.m. Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D.
