YANKTON, S.D. – Scoring opportunities came in all shapes and sizes for the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team as they defeated the Mount Marty College Lancers 6-0 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tilt for their first win of the season Tuesday in Yankton, S.D.
Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) got things going in the eighth minute, scoring the first goal of the contest. Seven minutes later, the freshman found the net in the 15th minute to put the Tigers up 2-0. In the 16th minute, Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) pitched in her first goal of the season. Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added her name to the list with her first goal of the season in the 27th minute. Weidler recorded her third goal in the 78th minute, followed by a goal by senior Jessica Lopez (Lewisville, Texas) in the 81st minute.
Senior Kira Miller (Rock Springs, Colo.) had a quiet night in the net, tallying one save. The Tigers outshot the Lancers 26-3.
DWU (1-12-1) travels south to battle Hastings College for a GPAC match at 5:30 p.m., Saturday in Hastings, Neb.
