Tigers top Waldorf in nonconference action

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team started the 2017 season off on the right track, defeating Waldorf University 1-0 in nonconference action on Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

For the Tigers in the first period, shots were easy to come by as they tallied 11 shots, but were unable to find the net. However, the second half was a different story.

Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) found the net right out of the gates and not even a minute into the second half on a smooth feed from junior Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.)

The Tigers outshot Waldorf 16-2 in the contest. Behm recoded six, while Wesley added five.

Junior goalie Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) had two saves in her debut for the Tigers.

The Tigers (1-0) host the University of Sioux Falls for an exhibition game at 5 p.m. Thursday in Mitchell.
