MITCHELL, S.D. – A full 90 minutes was not enough between the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team and the York College women's soccer team as they had to settle the game in overtime. Three minutes into extra time, Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) drilled the game-winning shot to give DWU the 2-1 comeback victory Saturday night at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
The Panthers (0-1) opened up the scoring in the first half as they found the back of the net with five minutes left to play before intermission. It was back-and-forth throughout the second half until Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) connected on a shot in the 62nd minute to tie the game at one.
Freshman goalie Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) flexed her muscles in the waning moments of regulation to keep the York offense from taking the lead. Off a free kick, the Panthers crossed a ball in front of the net and found the foot of a York forward as the ball was smacked towards the DWU goal, but Bowes snagged the ball out of the air to deny the goal.
Moments later, Wesley had her shot deflected to the foot of Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) as Weidler's shot bounced off the post.
A minute into overtime, Wesley found another opportunity but had her shot skim by the left post as the game remained tied at one. Behm was able to find the back of the net minutes later to snag the comeback victory for the undefeated Tigers (2-0).
Wesley finished with four shots, one goal and one assist, as Behm finished with three shots and a goal. Bowes added seven saves in the net. The Tigers were outshot, 18-15 during the match.
DWU hits the road for the first time this season as they take on Grace University at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Omaha Neb.
