YANKTON S.D. – With the score tied at two, the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team put the game out of reach with two goals in the last 17 minutes on the road as they defeated Mount Marty College, 4-2 on Saturday.
Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) put the Tigers (4-0) on the board first as she scored in the 27th-minute to give DWU the early 1-0 lead. The lead disappeared as the Lancers (0-2, 0-1 GPAC) answered back with a goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
20 minutes later, DWU regained the lead off a Stephanie Banvelos (Hayward, Calif.) goal. Again, MMC had an answer as they tied the game in the 71st-minute.
With the score tied 2-2, Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) carried the team as she scored the final two goals for the Tigers. She scored in the 73rd and 85th-minute to secure the victory for the Tigers, and give them their fourth win of the season.
Weidler led the charge with eight shots, two goals and an assist, while Banvelos added four shots, a goal and an assist.
In the goal, Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) finished the game with three saves. The Tigers outshot the Lancers, 22-8 and finished with six corner kicks versus four from MMC.
The Tigers take the pitch against Central Christian College at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
