MITCHELL, S.D. – It wasn't what the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team had in mind on Tuesday. In-state foe, Presentation College defeated the Tigers 4-1 in nonconference action at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
Presentation jumped out to an early lead as they scored first in the opening minutes. Then right again before halftime, the Saints found the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room.
The Saints began the second half the same way they started the game, with a goal in the first few minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Jocelyn Behm (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tried to kick-start the Tiger comeback as she scored in the 57th minute.
However, the goal would not be enough for DWU as they allowed another goal in the closing minutes.
The Tigers (4-2, 1-0 GPAC) finished with 13 shots and four corner kicks. Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) started the game at goalie and ended the half with a save. Freshman Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) started the second half in goal and finished the game with two saves.
Behm finished with six shots and the only goal for DWU as Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added three shots.
DWU returns to action as they host Jamestown College at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex Center in Mitchell.
