SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team had to wait to play its first Great Plains Athletic Conference game of the 2017 season due to inclement weather. However, Concordia University and the Tigers battled on Sunday as the Bulldogs topped the Tigers 2-0 at Sioux Falls O'Gorman High School in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Bulldogs scored first in the 31st minute and again in the 87th minute to put the game out of reach for the Tigers. CUNE outshot DWU 23-4 in the contest, while recording 14 corner kicks compared to zero by the Tigers.
Speedy sophomore Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied a shot for the Tigers in the loss. Courtney Mascarenas (Pueblo, Colo.), Ashtyn Cobb (Huron, S.D.) and Alexandria Jacobs (Niles, Calif.) also pitched in a shot.
Starting goalie Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) and Cristal Villalvazo (San Jose, Calif.) added four saves.
The Tigers (5-3, 0-1 GPAC) visit College of Saint Mary for a GPAC battle at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Omaha, Neb.
