MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team scored a flurry of goals in the opening minutes of the game to top Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Mount Marty College, 3-1 Tuesday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.
In the third minute, Brittany Forsman (Sioux Falls, S.D.) launched a long shot that flew by the goalie and put DWU up 1-0. Cierra Asmann (Castle Rock, Colo.) gave the Tigers (6-10, 1-8 GPAC) a 2-0 lead just moments later off a pass from Alexandria Jacobs (Niles, Calif.).
Ten minutes into the second half the Lancers (3-12, 1-8 GPAC) narrowed the margin with a goal to make it a one-score game. However, Gemini Wesley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) gave DWU some breathing room with a goal in the 71st minute that proved to be enough to defeat the Lancers.
Asmann, Wesley and Forsman recorded a goal each, as Jacobs and Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied an assist. Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) tallied two saves in the goal for DWU.
The Tigers finish out their regular season at Doane University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Crete, Neb.
